Blue Lizard Suncream 200     Jun 23, 2007
Infineon Raceway is a challenging road course, even among NASCAR’s elite, but Justin Lofton was up to the test of the 1.99-mile circuit in Sonoma, California, this weekend. Lofton’s practice sessions on Friday were plagued by clutch problems in the #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz Synthetic Lubricants Ford Fusion. Crew Chief Rob Dixon discussed various adjustments to the car with Lofton while the crew prepared the car for qualifying. The changes didn’t show just how fast the car would be during the race, and the Fusion was good enough during qualifying to garner a spot mid-pack for Saturday’s 64-lap event.

The Blue Lizard Australian Suncream 200 began shortly after two o'clock on Saturday, following driver introductions. Lofton moved through the field quickly, running in the top-ten by lap sixteen. As the race continued, Lofton was able to lead on lap 29 before coming into the pits. Various pit strategies were developing in the 38-car field as pre-race changes were made by NASCAR regarding the number of crew members allowed over the wall during a pit stop. Teams changed rights, lefts and even rear tires only while making their stops. A few teams, including Lofton and the eventual winner of the race, chose fuel only. The #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz Synthetic Lubricants Ford Fusion finished fifth, bringing yet another top-five at the road course and propelled Lofton into the top-five in the point’s standings.

"We had a great weekend," said Lofton. "We didn’t practice or qualify as well as expected after testing, but I’m proud of my crew for the hard work and keeping spirits high throughout the weekend. Rob made a great call with the fuel only stop, and we managed to gain a few bonus points on the track, which helped the overall standings." The Blue Lizard Suncream 200 will re-air July 3 at 11:30 AM (PST) on Speed Channel’s Racing Across America.

Lofton, currently fourth in the standings, and the NASCAR Grand National Division West Series will head north this weekend for the BI-MART FIRECRACKER 150 presented by NAPA AUTO PARTS at Douglas County Speedway on Saturday, June 30, in Roseburg, Oregon. Lofton expects to better last year’s top-ten finish at the half-mile oval with a strong team effort. Live broadcast of the event will be at 8:30 PM (PST) on HDNet.
