Jun 2, 2007 The NAPA “150” at Colorado National Speedway played out in front of a full house. Justin Lofton, driving the #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz Synthetic Lubricants Ford Fusion was atop the leader board during practice; however, the changing weather conditions became an issue during the early qualifying runs, relegating Lofton to a mid-pack lineup for the race. The 3/8-mile track was fast, and Lofton was able to use multiple grooves to drive through the field to the front. The car worked well all night, particularly on long green-flag runs. Lofton ran with the leaders mid-race, but a late spin dropped the Ford Fusion to the tail end of the lead lap, and Lofton finished in 12th position. The points’ race among the top-ten cars has tightened, with only 45 points separating Lofton and four other drivers. “I was excited coming into Colorado because of the runs we had in Minnesota and Iowa in the East/West Combo races. We ran clean and came home with two good cars,” said the 21-year old driver from Westmorland, CA. “This past weekend I knew we had a car that would run up front. The track was fast and fun to drive, but we had a couple of bad breaks and didn’t get the results we wanted,” Lofton commented. The next race will be the Blue Lizard Australian Suncream “200” on Saturday, June 23rd, at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. The 1.99-mile road course event will air live on HDNet at 2:00 p.m. The race will re-air on SPEED’s “Racing Across America.” Crew Chief Rob Dixon related that testing had gone well at Infineon and that the crew was anticipating another good run after last year’s top-five finish. On Saturday Lofton will be participating in the second annual NASCAR Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento beginning a 10 o’clock. The event will serve as a kick-off for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Toyota/Save Mart 350. Fans will interact with the drivers first hand in the Nextel Racing Experience and AAA Motorsports Experience simulators, and competitors will conclude the day with a parade through the streets surrounding the state capitol. On June 20th Lofton will also be attending a NASCAR reception at Chops Steakhouse in downtown Sacramento. |
