Grand-Am Rolex Series 24 at Daytona

Justin Lofton, a regular with the Grand National West series, will jump start his 2007 racing season by competing in the Grand-Am Rolex Series 24 at Daytona on Saturday, 24 January. Lofton, along with Lawson Aschenbach, the 2006 SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Champion and Ross Smith, an experienced road racer, will drive Jon Mirachi’s Racer’s Edge Motorsports # 30 Pontiac GXP-R. Sponsors for Justin’s effort include Bob Lofton Cattle Feeding Investments and Maxwell Paper Products. Justin will compete against 41 entries in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Royal Crown Special Reserve GT class.
Lofton, Aschenbach, and Ross tested the Pontiac early in January and achieved impressive results. Justin related that he felt comfortable in the car and picked up speed on each run. Gaining valuable experience in a different form of racing will be a plus for Lofton, who said the most difficult part of switching from a circle track car to a purpose built road course car is the amount of speed and G-forces the cars can stand in the center of the corner, as the road course car is lighter and more nimble. Justin is anticipating the challenge of this competition, which includes more than 60 drivers who hold national and world championships.
Coverage of the event, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, 24 January on FOX Sports, will include extensive pre-race programming from Daytona. NASCAR DRIVERS TONY STEWART, JEFF GORDON, JIMMIE JOHNSON, BOBBY LABONTE, AND JUAN PABLO MONTOYA ARE ALSO ENTERED IN THE EVENT. THE 2007 RACE WILL BE THE FIRST-EVER NETWORK TELEVISION APPREARANCE FOR THE ROLEX SERIES, AN ENDURANCE CLASSIC.
