NAPA 300
Aug 4, 2007
The weather in Monroe, Washington, on Saturday, August 4th, was unsettled, as was the #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz/Eibach Ford Fusion throughout the day. The car was temperamental during the lone practice session at the historic fairgrounds track, but came into its own for qualifying. Justin Lofton turned a lap of 23.78 on the .646-mile oval, placing the car sixth on the grid for the green flag.
The NAPA “300” presented by BASALITE got a late start in front of a packed grandstand. Lofton kept the car on track among the leaders throughout the night and during multiple pit stops for fuel, tires, and minor adjustments.
He never dropped lower than his starting position. The race lent itself to long green-flag runs, with only six caution flags for a total of 37 laps during the 300-lap event. The crew did a great job with pit stops on the dimly lit pit road, and Lofton turned the quickest lap of the night at 23.99 while leading the race. Lofton jumped to seventh in the points standings with a fifth place finish and is just nine points out of sixth place.
"It was a good weekend for us, getting back in the groove after our last couple of races," said the driver from Westmorland. "I’m sure we have our mechanical troubles behind us. We didn’t have the best car, but Rob did a great job keeping us on the track with the leaders and the right pit strategy. I couldn’t have asked anything more of the pit crew; they did a great job all night,” concluded Lofton.
Lofton Racing would like to take this opportunity to thank its partners-- Lofton Cattle, Cometic Gasket, Klotz Lubricants and Eibach Springs-- for their continued support this season. The NASCAR Grand National Division West Series will head south for the CALIFORNIA “150” at California Speedway on Saturday, August 11th. Lofton always enjoys the challenge of a road course, and this will be the inaugural trip for the series to the 2.8-mile road course in Fontana, California.
