The inaugural road course event held in Fontana, California, on Saturday, August 11th, was problematic as tire wear became the forefront issue of the day. The high banked speeds combined with multiple tight turns proved to be a dilemma for a number of teams during practice which prompted a change to the course by NASCAR before qualifying. The #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz/Eibach Ford Fusion was among those to encounter tire trouble during practice, however Lofton was happy with the car and for the second time this season placed the car on the front row for the start of the race on the revamped 2.4-mile course.

The green flag dropped for the California 125 and Lofton settled in for the challenging road course event. A mandatory caution was thrown on lap seven giving teams the opportunity to check the right side tire wear and make the necessary changes. The #66 Lofton Cattle/Cometic Gasket/Klotz/Eibach Ford Fusion was leading the pack by lap 16 only to fall victim to a flat tire a few laps later. The team was able to change tires and get the car back on track losing little ground, however the damage to the sway bar was extensive and the driver would continue to battle with car for the remainder of the race. Lap times remained on track as Lofton brought the car through the field for another top-ten finish. The race itself was just over an hour, with only three caution flags for a total of 6 laps during the 42-lap event that was shortened due to darkness. Lofton moves to sixth in the point standings with this ninth place finish and one race remaining in the regular season.

"I had the best car we’ve had on the track all year," said the 21-year-old driver from Westmorland. "I was disappointed with our tire problem because I think we had a car good enough for much better results, but the damage to the front suspension was difficult to overcome on this course,” concluded Lofton.

Lofton Racing would like to take this opportunity to thank its partners -- Lofton Cattle, Cometic Gasket, Klotz Lubricants, Eibach Springs, MSD and Darling International, Inc. -- for their continued support this season. The NASCAR Grand National Division West Series will head to Altamont Motorsports Park for the season finale on Saturday, September 15th. Lofton came up a just short of his first victory during his previous visit to the fast half-mile oval in Tracy, California and hopes to cap the season with a win.
